On 15 February, the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in London hosted “An evening with Sir David Chipperfield” celebrating David Chipperfield’s year as Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate. The evening started with remarks by Rebecca Salter, President of the RA, followed by an introduction to the prize and its jury by Manuela Lucá-Dazio, Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize and then a screening of the 2023 Pritzker Architecture Prize virtual ceremony. It culminated in a conversation between David and Annette Dittert, a German author, filmmaker, correspondent and journalist. The discussion covered the rebuilding of the Neues Museum in Berlin, comparing it to the ongoing and completed work on the RA’s campus in London, and the evolving roles and responsibilities of the architect. The event took place in the lecture theatre of the RA, a space that was designed by David Chipperfield Architects as part of the institution’s ongoing redevelopment.
